I got back from the Laszlo User's Group in San Francisco on Thursday night, and I must say I'm really jazzed. They had a lot of great demos, the technology is really cool, and I'm having a great time playing with it myself. I would highly encourage anyone who is familar with HTML/XML and wants to try their hand at app development to check it out. Over the years I've developed a sort of intuition about apps that have that "something" that makes them more than just some flash in the pan (no pun intended) and Laszlo (despite the pretty lousy name) seems to have it.

Check out ObjectWare (www.objectware.com). Their IdeaBlade product uses WinForms & remoting, giving the option of binary messaging vice XML if bandwidth is a concern. This is geared more towards business apps vice browser-based b2c.
